A collaboration between the East Lyme Public Library and the East Lyme Historical Society.

The East Lyme Archive Room includes the local history collections of the East Lyme Public Library and the East Lyme Historical Society.  It includes both original, and reproduced materials in print, photographic, electronic, and digital formats.  The Archive Room is located in the East Lyme Public Library and is open to the visitors most Mondays from 9:00 to noon and by appointment.

The land where East Lyme stands today has a long history documented in our collections.  Members of the Nehantic Tribe lived here before European settlers arrived over 300 years ago.  Town residents participated in The Great Awakening and the Revolutionary War, and pioneered early survey approaches and smallpox vaccinations program.   In the late 19th century, East Lyme was an early seaside resort.

Our research collections includes extensive documentation on houses and neighborhoods and research collections on the Nehantic Indians and the State Farm for Women, a Progressive Era women’s reformatory.
